Choosing where it will go
Ensure adequate air supply around fridge/freezer to disperse the warm air from the condenser. The machine will not operate efficiency without sufficient air circulation, and may be hazardous.

Some refrigerators are designed to fit under a worktop, with removable top panels if required.  Check if opening the fridge door from the left is convenient in the space available  -  models are available with reversible doors.


Choosing size
Most fridges/freezers standard width (550-600mm) and depth (600mm), but vary in height, ensuring a neat fit into any kitchen built to standard dimensions.

Check that the door will open fully, and clear of the frame
TIP ! If possible, choose a larger capacity than you think you need.
Capacity is measured in cubic feet or litres, enabling easy comparison between models.
Generally, fridges designed to fit under a worktop have ~ five cubic feet capacity  -  about the minimum need for a single person.

Upright fridges are taller, and normally have about 10 cubic feet capacity (should suit requirements of average family).

More models are now available in a choice of finishes/colours to fit with your kitchen design.


Delivery and installation
Most retailers will arrange delivery and installation of your new machine, and often make a charge for this service. Here are a few questions well worth clarifying in making these arrangements.

  • is installation also included?
  • is it possible to remove your old machine, and are there any additional costs of doing so?
  • will the bulky packaging from the new machine also be removed?
  • can the delivery service be scheduled to suit your availability, such as in the evening or weekend?
  • if only available during the day, can the company offer precise delivery times to minimise the time you may need to take off work?
  • what guarantees or compensation are available if your goods are not delivered at the time promised?

The future
  • availability of any after-sales service.
